Moxa Whitepaper – How to Choose an Edge Gateway for Your IIoT Applications
On November 19, 2019 The German Technology Day hosted by Rittal, Eplan, Wago and Pilz was held in Mississauga. The event showcased a unique conversion of 4 companies in an effort that strongly resembles the collaborative efforts that German companies have largely embraced and is often showcased in European shows but has yet to be fully embraced in North America.
The evolution of industrial HMIs from simple interfaces to today’s edge computing powerhouses has been remarkable, and unlocks new possibilities for optimizing industrial operations, enhancing efficiency, and driving digital transformation. Schneider Electric’s IPC solutions are at the forefront of this revolution, offering industrial companies an intelligent window to the critical real-time data they need from the control room to the plant floor and beyond, to make faster and better decisions, anytime and anywhere. Industrial digital transformation leverages the latest IIoT technologies, like these new IPCs, to transform the way we work, allowing industrial companies and their workforces to become more connected, informed, productive, agile, and strategic. Adopting these technologies and starting the digital transformation journey enables them to stay ahead in today’s fast-moving digital landscape. It’s clear that technological evolutions like the one we have seen with HMIs are paving the way for a more efficient, effective, and sustainable industrial future for us all.
Shipping a mislabeled product is at the heart of some of the largest recalls, damaged supplier relations, compliance violations, and warranty costs across multiple industries. Customers relying on “just-in-time” delivery can experience costly downtime if the quality of a label or barcode is not maintained upstream. Handheld high-volume traceability systems continue to be a powerful tool to address these challenges, especially when integrated into all-in-one automation architecture. This blog will explore the benefits and applications of these systems, with a focus on Omron’s unified offerings.
For OEMs, machine builders, engineers, and plant managers, machine safety is more than regulatory compliance; it’s a responsibility to workers, a commitment to customers, and a strategic advantage. Every machine on the factory floor has two sides: its potential to drive productivity, and its potential to cause harm. Striking the right balance between performance and protection is the essence of machine safety. This article explores the key principles, regulations, and practical steps behind machine safety—from understanding new European rules to applying structured design methodologies. The goal is simple: to help you protect your people, safeguard productivity, and future-proof your operations.
In the rapidly evolving world of industrial automation, version control remains a critical aspect of maintaining reliable and efficient operations. The wrong version control system can lead to increased troubleshooting time, security vulnerabilities, and unnecessary costs. For instance, an expensive cloud-based solution might be overkill for a machine that rarely changes, while a redundant PLC setup might not suffice for complex, frequently updated systems. Selecting the right version control system for specific factory needs is crucial. The wrong system can lead to a host of issues, including increased downtime and security risks. Understanding the unique requirements of each application, such as the frequency of updates, network connectivity and cybersecurity needs, is essential. For example, a simple backup on an hard drive might be sufficient for a stable, long-running machine, while a more sophisticated cloud-based solution is necessary for systems with frequent changes.
I was recently invited to speak at the Future Mining Summit 2017 event hosted by the Global Mining Standards and Guidelines Group. The two-day conference was held in early December 2017. The venue was a fitting one: 20-metres below ground in Stockholm, Sweden at Epiroc’s test mine.

Advanced Motion Controls is proud to announce the addition of six new CANopen servo drives with Extended Environment capabilities to their FlexPro line. These new drives join AMC’s existing EtherCAT Extended Environment FlexPro drives, making the FlexPro line the go-to solution for motion control applications in harsh environments.
Many motion control applications take place in conditions that are less than ideal, such as extreme temperatures, high and low pressures, shocks and vibrations, and contamination. Electronics, including servo drives, can malfunction or sustain permanent damage in these conditions.
