New FLOWSIC500 Ultrasonic Flowmeter: Custody Transfer Measurement in Natural Gas Distribution

Just added to the Endress+Hauser Canada product portfolio, the multiple award-winning FLOWSIC500 compact ultrasonic flowmeter offers natural gas distributors and gas processors industry recognized excellence in custody transfer and delivery point metering that requires no routine maintenance.

Developed by SICK, Endress+Hauser’s new strategic partner for process automation, FLOWSIC500 now is sold and supported solely by the latter and by Endress+Hauser authorized representatives.

Unlike mechanical positive displacement gas flowmeters, FLOWSIC500 has no moving parts to fail and no bearings to oil or oil reservoirs to fill. The meter’s on-board diagnostics are constantly monitoring the instrument’s health, sending an alarm in the case of contamination or a change in the performance of its electronic components; maintenance only is required if it signals a need. That makes it a rugged, reliable and low-maintenance device with time-proven technology assuring long service life with continuing operator cost savings.

Unlike other ultrasonic gas flowmeters, FLOWSIC500’s functions perfectly without an upstream or downstream straight pipe requirement. That also makes it an ideal one-for-one replacement for ANSI 150 turbine or rotary meters.

FLOWSIC500 is all-in-one technology: flowmeter, electronics, volume correction (PTZ). With a turndown up to 200:1, the available measuring range (1.0m3/h ….1,000 m3/h) exceeds typical mechanical rotary and turbine meters.  No more lost revenue in low flow ranges including challenging seasonal loads (i.e. schools).

Since there is no physical part in FLOWSIC500’s measurement section to potentially interfere with the gas flow – nothing to seize or break – the meter is ‘fail-open’ and provides certainty in applications where a continuous gas supply is vital, like hospitals.

FLOWSIC500 is intended for applications such as natural gas distribution, metering stations in industrial and commercial applications as well as institutional and large multi-unit residential buildings. Its capabilities support custody transfer along any distribution network and for meeting regulatory compliance obligations for monitoring fuel gas usage for methane leaks and emissions in systems like large boilers, steam generators and compressors.

With its digital interfaces and wireless communication options, FLOWSIC500 can be integrated perfectly into high-level control systems making possible remote network monitoring and gas quality optimization. Alternatively, each FLOWSIC500 can be operated as a battery-power standalone device, with typical battery life of 5-7 years. The meter is available in sizes that cover the common flange-to-flange dimensions used in natural gas distribution:

  • Volume flow, a. c., DN 50 (2″) 1.0 … 160 m³/h (35 ft³/h … 5,650 ft³/h)
  • Volume flow, a. c., DN 80 (3″) 2.5 … 400 m³/h (88 ft³/h … 14,125 ft³/h)
  • Volume flow, a. c., DN 100 (4″) 4.0 … 650 m³/h (141 ft³/h … 22,954 ft³/h)
  • Volume flow, a. c., DN 150 (6″) 4.0 … 1,000 m³/h (141 ft³/h … 35,314 ft³/h)

ADVANCED Motion Controls Takes Servo Drives to New Heights (and Depths) with FlexPro Extended Environment Product Line

Advanced Motion Controls is proud to announce the addition of six new CANopen servo drives with Extended Environment capabilities to their FlexPro line. These new drives join AMC’s existing EtherCAT Extended Environment FlexPro drives, making the FlexPro line the go-to solution for motion control applications in harsh environments.

Many motion control applications take place in conditions that are less than ideal, such as extreme temperatures, high and low pressures, shocks and vibrations, and contamination. Electronics, including servo drives, can malfunction or sustain permanent damage in these conditions.
