NX-CT High-Speed Counter Unit: High-Speed Edge Control with Microsecond Response & Flexible Channel Density

OMRON’s NX-CT High-Speed Counter Unit brings fast, precise counting and control closer to the machine. Designed for high-speed automation applications, it combines counter-match output response within 1 µs, high-resolution pulse acquisition, and selectable 2-phase 2-channel or single-phase 6-channel operation in a compact NX Series form factor. With Sysmac and EtherCAT integration, the NX-CT supports demanding applications such as filling and dosing, high-speed inspection triggering, data capture, machining control, and synchronized pulse or PWM output.

Overview

High-speed machines can move faster than a PLC scan cycle, creating the risk of missed counts, delayed actuation, or lost inspection data. The NX-CT performs critical counting, matching, triggering, and data capture functions on the module, helping maintain precise control independent of the primary PLC scan cycle. Its advance time setting can compensate for downstream device delay, while flexible channel configuration, on-module logging, and per-channel filtering give machine builders a compact way to handle a wide range of encoder and pulse-input applications.

Key Features

  • Counter-match Output Response within 1 µs: Enables fast on-module edge control for precise triggering and actuation without waiting on the primary PLC scan cycle.
  • Advance Time Setting: Compensates for downstream device delays, helping improve timing accuracy for valves, cameras, lasers, and other actuators.
  • Flexible 2-Channel or 6-Channel Configuration: Select 2-phase 2-channel operation for encoder applications or single-phase 6-channel operation for higher pulse-input density in the same compact footprint.
  • High-speed Pulse Acquisition: Supports up to 1 MHz response frequency on voltage-input models and up to 4 MHz on line-receiver models for high-speed encoders and flow meters.
  • On-module Latch Logging: Captures up to 16 data points per channel per cycle and stores up to 2,048 captured values per channel for reliable high-speed data collection independent of PLC scan timing.
  • Per-channel Digital Filtering: Selectable low-pass filter settings from 100 Hz to 1 MHz help maintain reliable pulse counting in electrically noisy industrial environments.
  • Synchronized Pulse and PWM Output: Supports output synchronized with target-value matching for applications including fan, lighting, and on/off valve control.
  • Compact Sysmac / EtherCAT Integration: Fits naturally into NX Series architectures, providing a native high-speed counter option for customers building or migrating to Sysmac and EtherCAT-based machines.

ADVANCED Motion Controls Takes Servo Drives to New Heights (and Depths) with FlexPro Extended Environment Product Line

Advanced Motion Controls is proud to announce the addition of six new CANopen servo drives with Extended Environment capabilities to their FlexPro line. These new drives join AMC’s existing EtherCAT Extended Environment FlexPro drives, making the FlexPro line the go-to solution for motion control applications in harsh environments.

Many motion control applications take place in conditions that are less than ideal, such as extreme temperatures, high and low pressures, shocks and vibrations, and contamination. Electronics, including servo drives, can malfunction or sustain permanent damage in these conditions.
