Canada’s First Smart Hospital is Becoming a Reality

Smart Hospital

November 3, 2017

Upon completion in 2020, Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will be the first hospital in Canada to feature fully integrated ‘smart’ technology systems and medical devices that speak directly to one another to maximize information exchange. The smart hospital vision will be applied at the existing Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital as well as the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital for a seamless care experience.

Seventy smart workflows are being developed to improve the way staff work, ultimately allowing caregivers to spend more time with patients. One example of a smart flow focuses on Code Blue (cardiac arrest) response. Through integrated technology, the vital signs monitor, smart badges, elevators, smart beds, IV pumps and screens will receive commands simultaneously and operate independently and efficiently, saving valuable time.

The latest information about the ongoing initiatives to improve the patient and family care experience at the Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital, as well as the latest progress on the planning and construction of the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will be shared with Richmond Hill Ward 4 residents in April 2017.

Since November 2016, senior members of Mackenzie Health and Plenary Health have provided presentations to the City of Vaughan, the Town of Richmond Hill, the Township of King,  Vaughan Ward 1 residents and to the Regional Municipality of York.
