Eaton has developed its first-ever global forum to help advance cybersecurity for a more connected world.

The Cybersecurity Perspectives conference goes live on Monday, October 26 with keynote sessions and the entire program will be available on-demand.

Inside of the next five years, analysts expect 41.6 billion connected devices will be generating 79.4 zettabytes of data that need to be maintained and processed. In an increasingly connected world, cybersecurity is a critical capability and Eaton’s enterprise-wide proactive and consistent approach to cybersecurity is unique.

We can do much more to create positive change and help ensure our lives are not impacted by cyber breaches and attacks,” said Michael Regelski, senior vice president, R&D for Intelligent Power Management Solutions and chief technology officer, Electrical Sector at Eaton. “In this breakthrough global forum, we are bringing together Eaton experts, partners and customers from around the world to discuss hard-won lessons, best practices and industry standards to support a more secure tomorrow.”

The Cybersecurity Perspectives educational sessions include:

  • Keynote insights from Eaton leaders – Michael Regelski, chief technology officer, Electrical Sector on the three key actions to advance cybersecurity and Aravind Yarlagadda, chief digital officer, on the intersection of digitalization and cybersecurity
  • Expert-led panel discussions on security trends and the strategies that attendees can implement to manage risk with experts from Eaton, Microsoft, Payatu and Synopsys
  • Industry leaders weigh in on global standards – including experts from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Society of Automation (ISA) Global Cybersecurity Alliance, UL and Eaton
  • How-to education and training sessions on key technical aspects of cybersecurity

Exploring the Impact of M8 Cables in Various Applications

M8 cables are a type of circular electrical connectors used to link actuators and sensors. They have an 8-millimeter diameter and are widely utilized in a variety of industrial and automation applications because of their small size, robustness, and consistent performance even under harsh conditions. Similar to the M12 cables, their robustness enables them to endure mechanical stress, vibration, and harsh weather conditions, and their compact size makes them appropriate for applications with limited space.

SmartD: VFD Leakage Current & Ground Fault Protection – Ensuring Safety & Compliance

Imagine a bustling manufacturing plant where machines produce thousands of components every hour. The electrical cabinets buzz with energy, and a labyrinth of cables branches out to every corner, connecting motors large and small. In one corner stands a shiny new Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) controlling a high-horsepower motor. Nearby, an experienced technician named Alex notices something on his handheld meter: a small current is flowing to the ground. At first, it might seem like no big deal, just a few milliamps. But is it dangerous? Or completely normal? This is the heart of the story, and it brings up a question that might be obvious to an experienced professional but still makes you think deeply: Why do we place so much emphasis on the small currents? Why do engineers and technicians, meticulously measure, analyze, and sometimes worry about these tiny currents that appear to do no harm? The reason, of course, is because these small currents can be indicators—indicators of normal operation, or signs of a potential problem that could cause serious safety issues. Welcome to the world of leakage current and ground faults in VFD systems. This article will explore these phenomena with a didactic approach, focusing on why they matter, how they behave, and what sets them apart, especially when looking at clean power VFDs. Whether you’ve spent decades in electrical systems or you’re just stepping into this specialized area, this exploration aims to reinforce the concepts and inspire you to dig deeper into the nuances of these tiny but critically important currents.

Real-Time Comfort & Efficiency: How Edge AI Is Redefining Room Control

There’s an ‘upward’ theme in building operating challenges…energy costs are climbing, efficiency demands are up, occupants want more customization and doing more with less is the norm. Now is the time for building owners and facility managers to rethink their building performance–the right technology makes it possible. Cloud-based technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can help mitigate challenges to optimize HVAC systems and improve overall efficiency and building management operations. However, now AI “at the edge” building solutions embed intelligence right at the device level, eliminating the internet and data storage requirements needed for cloud solutions. For room controllers, in particular, this brings a new level of responsiveness and dependability to better meet decarbonization targets, comply with regulations, and meet occupant expectations.
