What is the name of your product?

Smart Item Picking

What problem does your product solve?

As a self-learning robotic system, Smart Item Picking from Bosch Rexroth automates manual, labor-intensive picking tasks in intralogistics. The system follows a completely model-free approach, thus it can even recognize previously unknown objects and pick them reliably. By communication with the Warehouse Management System (WMS) and the latest AI methods, the system’s object recognition is refined for each specific application and the gripping strategy is optimized for each individual pick. The modular system, based on flexible & scalable hardware and software building blocks, enables picking of a wide portfolio of various objects, such as fast moving consumer goods, pharma and drugstore items. Thanks to the modular approach, the system can be tailored to customer needs. It enables safe box emptying as well as volume-optimized placing during order picking. The robust system enables a success rate of 99 percent and a throughput of more than 600 items per hour.

What is the product’s main benefit for the customer?

Automation of repetitive picking & placing tasks is an answer to the challenge of labor shortage. Customers benefit from the Smart item Picking solution which increases productivity and reduces costs 24/7. A fast and easy set-up process due to automatic calibration as well as an user friendly operation distinguishes this system solution. The system is trimmed for high pick rates of over 600 picks per hour and allows an availability of 99 percent.

The value to “pick anything” by our modular approach enables flexibility and speed for a huge variety of different objects in a warehouse without teach-in. The solution can be tailored to your needs by agnostic Sensor and robot approach according to weight classes or form factors of your articles. On top with the Smart Item Picking solution we offer not only to automate the picking and placing tasks but also ancillary tasks, like scanning to verify the right product was picked.

How can your product contribute to industrial transformation?

In a VUCA* world, there is a high need for automation solutions in intralogistics, especially for strenuous, repetitive manual tasks in warehouses. By AI algorithms for Smart Item Picking, Bosch Rexroth offers a turnkey solution for a high degree of automation in piece picking tasks.
* Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity

Are there any other important points that you can think of?

The robust Smart Item Picking solution runs reliably. The flexible modular system with scalable technology modules enables safe box emptying and volume-optimized placement during order picking. Bosch Rexroth offers competent and reactive service and support worldwide over the entire product life cycle.

Electromate: Spring Applied & Power-Off Permanent Magnet Brakes – Engineering Failsafe Motion Control

Most electromagnetic brakes work on a simple logic: apply current, apply braking. Remove current, release braking. For many industrial applications, conveyors, packaging lines, printing machines, this is exactly the right behavior. The brake engages on demand and releases when not needed. But for a significant class of machines, this logic is exactly backwards. Robots, vertical… Read More…
