PNOZmulti 2: The Safe, Small Controller from Pilz that Reliably Offers Failsafe Analogue Value Processing

Let’s start with an example from the hydrogen industry. In the HY.City.Bremerhaven project, hydrogen is generated from surplus electricity and is stored safely in high-pressure vessels. The safe small controller PNOZmulti 2 from Pilz reliably monitors the transfer process through failsafe analogue value processing and protects against the dangers of the explosive gas mixture by monitoring relevant parameters and critical limits for pressure, temperature and loading and unloading speed. The “Safe ramp monitoring” block is integrated within the software tool PNOZmulti Configurator and enables precision setting of the limit values with dynamic limit value monitoring.

Maximum Safety & Precision for Challenging Industrial Processes

This is made possible by the PNOZ m EF 4AI, the safe analogue input module for the configurable small controller PNOZmulti 2. Analogue process variables such as pressure, temperature, fill level, flow rate and many other physical variables are recorded and monitored safely and precisely. Particularly noteworthy is the safety-related accuracy of 1% (per input). This plays a crucial role, especially in the hydrogen industry. At 1000 bar pressure in a hydrogen tank – at a standard market accuracy of 5% – the difference is 10 bar compared to 50 bar!

User Benefits

  • Greater process safety
  • Early fault detection
  • Reduced downtimes
  • Precise control and diagnostics

Overview of the Features

  • Safe analogue inputs (4 x 4–20 mA): The module offers four independent, safe analogue current inputs with a measuring range of 0–25 mA and a signed 15 Bit resolution.
  • Flexible scaling and parameter setting: The software tool PNOZmulti Configurator allows analogue measured values to be scaled into numerical variables with any unit of measurement. Functions such as limit value monitoring, arithmetic calculations (e.g. averaging, differential pressure) and plausibility checks are simple to configure.
  • Certified safety up to PL e / SIL 3
  • The exact analogue value can be forwarded to a fieldbus or OPC Server for diagnostic purposes

Dynamic process value monitoring means that analogue process variables such as pressure, for example, are not only recorded but are continuously and intelligently monitored – the aim being to detect discrepancies early and react quickly.

What “dynamic” means specifically:

  • Real-time processing of measured values directly in the module
  • Adjustable limit values and range monitoring, which can be configured flexibly
  • Arithmetic functions such as averaging or differential pressure calculation for intelligent evaluation
  • Scaling and plausibility check to guarantee correct values
  • Fast reaction times in the event of limit value violations or irregularities

Discover how you can benefit from the advantages of the safe analogue modules PNOZmulti 2 provides.

ADVANCED Motion Controls Takes Servo Drives to New Heights (and Depths) with FlexPro Extended Environment Product Line

Advanced Motion Controls is proud to announce the addition of six new CANopen servo drives with Extended Environment capabilities to their FlexPro line. These new drives join AMC’s existing EtherCAT Extended Environment FlexPro drives, making the FlexPro line the go-to solution for motion control applications in harsh environments.

Many motion control applications take place in conditions that are less than ideal, such as extreme temperatures, high and low pressures, shocks and vibrations, and contamination. Electronics, including servo drives, can malfunction or sustain permanent damage in these conditions.
