Pepperl+Fuchs Comtrol Launches a New Line of DeviceMaster® Industrial Gateways That Support EtherNet/IP to Modbus Communication

Pepperl+Fuchs Comtrol, a leading manufacturer of industrial device connectivity products and Pepperl+Fuchs’ official North American IO-Link competence center, is announcing a new product family within its DeviceMaster® industrial gateway lineup. DeviceMaster EIP-MOD gateways allow communication between EtherNet/IP controllers and Modbus master controllers.

The new gateways enable EtherNet/IP controllers—such as CIP complaint controllers that support Class 1 and Class 3 connections, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and OPC servers—to connect to Modbus master controllers. This includes serial Modbus RTU/ASCII interfaces, Modbus TCP interfaces, and Modbus RTU/ASCII over Ethernet TCP/IP.

DeviceMaster EIP-MOD gateways offer a paradigm shift in EtherNet/IP to Modbus communications. They provide highly flexible EtherNet/IP interfaces, the most advanced Modbus gateway functionality available, and a built-in data mapping feature that provides a Modbus Concentrator and direct EtherNet/IP controller to Modbus device communication. Web-based setup is performed with intuitive, embedded configuration pages that include data mapping verification and display of the shared memory map. The extensive diagnostics web pages are designed to aid maintenance and troubleshooting tasks.

“While other EtherNet/IP to Modbus products provide only limited EtherNet/IP controller to Modbus/RTU serial device connectivity, the DeviceMaster EIP-MOD gateway is designed to completely integrate EtherNet/IP controllers and Modbus networks. Now a vast variety of EtherNet/IP controllers, Modbus masters, and Modbus slave devices, both locally and remotely attached, can all communicate to each other,” says Pepperl+Fuchs Comtrol’s, Principal Software Engineer.

Pepperl+Fuchs Comtrol is excited to add the Ethernet IP to Modbus translation functionality to its series of industrial Ethernet gateways and protocol translators. With the DeviceMaster EIP-MOD gateways, customers now have more visibility and control for implementing IIoT and Industry 4.0 initiatives, while those needing to merge legacy Modbus networks into Ethernet/IP or add Modbus devices into an existing Ethernet/IP controlled machine or factory have an intuitive and flexible solution.
