6 Ways Augmented Reality Will Transform Manufacturing Automation

Of all the new Industry 4.0 technologies, Augmented Reality (AR) is the one that, to many people, seems the most surprising. AR devices are often worn like glasses upon which software can project images or instructions as an overly to reality. This technology is more or less sophisticated depending on the application. In some cases, it’s as simple as a way to project instructions to the user. In others, it combines GPS data with vision technology to add visual graphics to a user’s field of view that can accurately identify and track moving objects. Despite the growing accessibility of this technology and the clear advantages, it offers when applied effectively, too many it still seems like a futuristic idea that’s more of a gimmick than a practical manufacturing tool. However, when used intelligently in an automated workflow, augmented reality can significantly improve manufacturing processes. Here’s how.

Phoenix Contact: Data Interfaces for Control Cabinets & Devices

The new Data Service Interfaces (DSIs) from Phoenix Contact are a convenient solution for service work on control cabinets and devices. With various interfaces including RJ45 and USB, the space-saving service interfaces enable the quick and easy connection of additional electrical devices. The DSIs include coupling modules such as USB type A 2.0, USB type A 3.0, and RJ45 CAT6A, as well as cable connection modules in the RJ45 CAT6A design. The increased IP protection class of IP65/IP67 with the protective cover closed mean that the DSIs ideal for use in industrial environments. They enable updates and maintenance work on closed control cabinets and devices, for example, to be carried out directly, easily, and quickly, thus avoiding long process interruptions. The DSIs are suitable for front mounting on wall thicknesses of 1 to 5 mm. The standardized wall cut-out of Ø22.5 mm mean that the interfaces enable space-saving installation. Installation is quick and tool-free. You can also customize them with your own logo.
